Hans Klein Hofmeijer
Dürst Britt & Mayhew is proud to present a selection of works from the intriguing oeuvre of Dutch artist Hans Klein Hofmeijer (1957 - 2025).
Hans Klein Hofmeijer’s drawings and paintings can actually best be described by what they are not: they are neither figurative nor abstract, yet they do not fall somewhere in between either. They do evoke a sense of recognition, but it is hard to say of what. They reveal an inner world in an outward form derived not from observation but from experience. They are scenic and physical, yet bear no resemblance to any setting or person. Recognisable objects and circumstances do appear, but they cannot be captured. Klein Hofmeijer does not copy what he has seen. He has no plans that he carries out, other than putting a pencil to paper and letting it move.
